EU AI Act: A Pioneering Framework for Artificial Intelligence
From 1 August 2024, the AI Act, the first global regulatory framework on Artificial Intelligence, officially came into force. Approved by the European Parliament and the European Council, this groundbreaking legislation aims to:
- Promote the development and implementation of safe and reliable AI systems across the EU.
- Ensure compliance with fundamental rights, security, and ethical principles.
- Address risks associated with powerful AI models.
The enactment of the AI Act represents a significant milestone in creating a more secure and ethical landscape for Artificial Intelligence. It also strengthens data protection in alignment with applicable legislation, particularly Regulation (EU) 2018/1725.
Italian Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2024-2026
Simultaneously, Italy has unveiled its Italian Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2024-2026, a comprehensive document developed by a committee of experts. Supported by @AGID – Agenzia per l’Italia Digitale, this strategy aims to:
- Define national regulations and policies for Artificial Intelligence.
- Outline macro-areas of focus for AI application and development.
- Support the integration of ethical and secure AI systems within Italy’s digital ecosystem.
The strategy provides a roadmap to harness AI’s potential while addressing challenges related to regulation, ethics, and innovation.
